I understand the acceptance of the secular constitution to be a fear in the people's leaders to allow an opening for a denomination to gain power over all the other denominations, therefore returning to a "Romish" alliance between church and state.
The church in Rome collaborated with the kings in Europe to maintain their control over the masses, mainly to increase their power, their riches, and their prestige. This, of course, led to the Dark Ages, persecution and martyrs, and ultimately forced Bible reading Christians to flee the continent, the Pilgrims.
The people's leaders ratified the Constitution because they feared a tyrannical alliance between chruch and state more than they feared a secular government restrained from interfering in religion.
This debate over the constitution provoked John Adams to say,"Our constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other."
Ungodly men have always sought power. They gravitate to the government. They whittled away the restraints in the Constitution and overthrew it. The clergy, and the people they are supposed to be "teaching and training," failed to keep America's fathers wise in God's Truth.
With good intentions the clergy allowed government and taxes to provide for public education. In a matter of time, the secularists took over America's schools. Now, 95% of America's fathers have no clue what God's role for them is. The state has taken over the role of "training them up in the way they should go" and taken over the role of "providing for your family," ie. Social Security, the Great Society, free rent, and now healthcare.
Where are the clergy raising up men of God? The natural consequences of failing to "train them up" are soon to be felt by the whole world.
The return to a righteous nation begins here: Mal 4:6 "He will turn the hearts of the fathers to their children, and the hearts of the children to their fathers; or else I will come and strike the land with a curse."
But, clergy has demonstrated its inability to empower fathers with the Truth. They cave in the face of godless men in government. La-la land, complacency, and disunity fills America's pews. They will suffer the consequences until they find the courage to remove all Christian children from government schools to be taught the Truth in the home and in the churches.
We need modern leaders and examples of fathers standing on the Truth of God in defiance of the godless in government. We need men clothed in the Armor of God to return this nation to common sense, common decency, and justice as defined in the Bible. Love of God, family, and neighbor... then men will understand liberty and freedom the way Patrick Henry understood it.
