For one thing, their parents would be forced to start teaching them and take responsibility for their own children. If Christians would pull their children out of public schooling the system would collapse. The sooner the quicker. Market Education For another thing, the billions of dollars now wasted on Luddite government education and the educational bureaucracy would suddenly be freed up for productive uses. Churches and private foundations would be invigorated and resurrected with an infusion of new funds. Private schools would spring up overnight with scholarships for poor students. Luddite? A Luddite was a member of the British trade guild that rejected the march of technological progress. In reality the real Luddite is one who clings to the failed government education system. All this could be done for a fraction of the money now wasted on government education and bureaucracy. The fact is, the sooner the public schooling system implodes and goes away the sooner America will recover from her cultural malignancy. Government education is the cause of the disease; it can never provide the cure. We assume that if government doesn't do something, it won't get done. Or it won't get done right. We believe this in spite of all evidence to the contrary. That's because most of us are graduates of public schooling. For all practical purposes the government is our god – we believe in the government schools. You can always tell a person's god by where he looks for strength, comfort, provision – and education. The entire Luddite system is based on theft. Widows are forced out of their homes or into reverse mortgages because they can't afford the property tax. To vote for more property tax for public schooling, is to be an accessory to theft. It is to collaborate in a system of legalized extortion. It to abuse the ballot box to vote money out of your neighbor’s pocket, and many times force him out of his home. The Eighth Commandment says, "Thou shalt not steal." Have you never read Gulliver's Travels? Read the section on "the Flying Island of Laputa". It is a 17th Century "Saturday Night Live" skit on the stupidity of government education. The island flies around tyrannizing the countryside and imposing "brain taxes" on the populace. They throw down a rope and demand, "send up the brain taxes." The hapless prince who attempts to interject some common sense is ridiculed by his Luddite father. Read "Market Education" by Mark Skousen. He traces the history of education from the times of the ancient Greeks and proves from history that whenever government gets involved in education, education is destroyed -- yes destroyed. He starts out with a comparison of Athens and Sparta. In Sparta boys were removed from their parents and educated for the glory of the state and its military exploits. That is those baby boys who passed the initial physical inspection and weren't hurled over the cliff. On the other hand, Athens had nothing but private schools, with freedom of educational choice. Even in that unChristian environment, Athenian culture flourished with huge advances in art, literature, and architecture. But ultimately it too failed because the knowledge of the true God was rejected. "The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom." A Luddite educational system built on anything else is doomed to destruction. Only when we repent and acknowledge that fact, will we ever experience the blessing of God.
