For those "confused by the angry ferocity" over this painting, we invite you study some more history, and some more theology. Jesus is the master of "we the people" of America, just the same as He is the emperor of every nation on earth. He has His own sovereign laws that He judges by. It will not "encourage and comfort God's children" to teach them that they will be judged by laws that are different than their Father's, no matter how humanly popular those laws may be.
If one of the "values of our founding fathers" was that all authority in heaven and earth belong to Jesus Christ, we should rejoice in that agreement with the Scripture. The Constitution implies that ethical authority for law derives from the majority of people, and prohibits officers from being accountable to any higher law.
If you want to understand America, you really only need to study 2 men: Patrick Henry, and Robert E. Lee (although Stonewall Jackson is more fun). This web site is a great introduction to Henry.

Am confused by your ferocity... by: Bonnie
Am struggling to discern if your visceral response to a well-intended, talented artist's work is pro or anti Christian ....or if you are pro or anti American...
At a time when secularism abounds, vile movies, television, music and art are the norm, your critique of this work seems to have great anger at it's core. Perhaps you over think it...perhaps instead of dissecting it under the guise of fact-checking, might you not take a deep breath and revel in the artist's intent which is to encourage and comfort God's children.
As we struggle to insist our so-called leaders return to the values of our founding fathers as stated in our constitution, this work of art is rife with good intent. Should we not appreciate that?
And does it genuinely deserve your contempt? The constituion was in some measure a flawed document created by flawed individuals..but to insist God was not in the hearts and minds of these men is not yours to know. You cannot know.
