Neither Business Nor Government, Only The Church Is Capable Of True Health Care Reform
The American Medical System is riddled with problems, but does this mean that the health care reform proposed by the Obama government is the only alternative? Careful analysis of the facts shows that both the business model and the government model for health care reform are fatally flawed. And more often than not they leave their victims fatally wounded. When the government proposes to “reform” anything it’s time to grab for your wallet and head for the hills. Only the Biblical model offers any hope for an effective and efficient reform. The Business Model Is Broken The need for genuine health care reform is evident in the following litany of problems associated with the current system that passes for health care in the United States. The current system is good at what might be termed the “body & fender” aspects of modern medicine. But when it comes to understanding what’s going on under the hood and delivering an effective cure it leaves much to be desired: 1) The current system (2009) promotes a mechanistic view of the human body, which tends to treat a malfunctioning organ in isolation, much like the independent systems of an automobile. If a part is broke just fix or replace it using the Just In Time (JIT) distribution model. 2) Related to this is an emphasis on treating symptoms rather than dealing with underlying issues that create the symptoms. A wholistic approach to health that treats the body as an integrated organism is ignored. 3) Reliance on drugs in treatment of symptoms fails to address the underlying pathology. Drugs suppress symptoms, but alter the pH balance in the body and drive the infection/disease deeper into the tissues. A false dichotomy between legitimate drugs and illegitimate drugs is encouraged. 4) Drugs are usually accompanied by side-effects that are often worse than the symptom and the disease. The Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) has reported that Iatrogenic (doctor induced) death is the #3 killer of Americans. Every year there are over 100,000 deaths caused from the side effects of drugs prescribed by physicians. 5) Cost of treatment is driven up by billions spent on marketing the alleged benefits of drugs to the general public, but especially to doctors. The system has a vested interest in stifling leading-edge medical discoveries and maintaining a diseased condition that requires ongoing purchase of expensive drugs. 6) A cooperative insurance system that subsidizes the above outdated, ineffective, and incredibly expensive treatments. The pressure to be covered by health insurance in event of catastrophic illness forces most people into the conventional model. The eventuality of being stricken by catastrophic illness is almost guaranteed by the model. 7) At the same time, the insurance system provides no incentive for consumers to practice preventative medicine and further escalates costs. The system rewards inactivity and passive response, but does little or nothing to incentivize personal responsibility. 8) De-emphasis on nutrition and suppression of natural healing techniques that are far more effective than the chemical approach to health care. The natural healing approach uses natural substances (as presented in nature) to augment natural healing processes within the body. The business model has driven costs into the stratosphere and made benefits of health care unavailable to the poor and much of the middle class apart from so-called government assistance. The ineffectiveness of the existing business model is legendary and invites further government intervention to “solve” the problem with health care reform. The Government Model Is Lethal Health care reform is clearly needed, but is big government really the best source of reform? As usual, government presents itself as the cultural balm to heal all wounds. In reality it has become the cultural bomb to wound all heels. The “heels” being the vast majority of the American citizenry that expects somebody else to provide for their health, education and welfare via the threat of government coercion. As details of the health care reform bill are more widely disseminated, the more evident it becomes that it is a blatant attack on freedom of choice and genuine health care reform. As flawed as the U.S. Constitution is, it provides no authorization for the federal government to provide for the health of American citizens. Moreover, health care is not a service provided by civil government in the Bible. Let’s pause for a moment to elaborate on that point. The little classic by Frederic Bastiat, entitled “The Law” makes the point crystal clear. Bastiat notes first that the purpose of civil government is to administer justice by enforcing the law. Its function is to prevent citizens from violating the life, liberty or property of their neighbors. However, under socialism the law is perverted and turned against itself by means of legal plunder. The law is no longer an instrument of justice but of injustice when it is used to plunder one class of people for the alleged good of another class. "Health care is right, not a privilege." -Barack Obama "The law has placed the collective force at the disposal of the unscrupulous who wish, without risk, to exploit the person, liberty, and property of others. It has converted plunder into a right, in order to protect plunder…The law has been perverted by the influence of two entirely different causes: stupid greed and false philanthropy." -Frederic Bastiat Thus, the civil government has no business whatsoever meddling in the health care industry beyond a possible interest in preserving public health and safety. To go further than this is to usurp the role of God and his church, which is treason against the kingdom of God. God will not let this arrogance go unpunished. As usual, government seeks to take advantage of the crisis as an opportunity to extend its control ever deeper into the private sector, trampling on liberty in the process. Here are just some of the threats associated with ObamaCare (HR3200): • It will cost more than a trillion dollars • It will ration health care • It will require “end of life” counseling • It will fund abortions with taxpayers’ money • It will give free health care to illegal aliens • It will deliver the coup-de-grace to an already terminal medical system The Biblical Model Of True Health Care Reform The Biblical approach to health care reform addresses both the method of delivery and the mode of healing that is to be delivered. In the first place we must come to the point of acknowledging the church as the focal point of health care. The words “salve” and “salvation” obviously have the same root. As noted above, both the business model and the government model for health care reform are terminal and cannot be revived. To pursue either is to pour money down a rat hole and consign the population to ongoing suffering and premature death. In the Old Testament the Levites were assigned a medical function, which included dealing with outbreaks of leprosy. The Levites were supported by the tithe. In the New Testament elders likewise are charged by God with healing responsibilities. A sick person is instructed to call for the elders of the church, who will pray for him and apply medicinal oil (James 5:14). The Greek verb is aleipho (apply) rather than chrio (annoint), indicating that this is not a ceremonial anointing. Rather it is the application of the best medical means of the day in the context of an appeal to God as the Great Physician. Thus, medicine can only be properly practiced as an aspect of Christian ministry, not of business, and certainly not of government. It is to be funded by the tithe, so that none of God’s poor will be excluded from the best medical treatment. The church must gradually reclaim this lost ministry. This will involve at least two things: 1) Study by the elders to develop an overview doctrine of medicine that will enable them to steer their people away from quackery and ineffective practice. 2) Funding of individuals gifted in the healing arts, possibly as members of the deaconate. For example, the author of the Book of Luke is identified as a Physician. Besides the proper mode of delivery, the Bible requires the use of appropriate means. In general, this points to the use of natural, plant-based remedies instead of artificial and harmful drugs. This is according to the pattern of Ezekiel 47:12 where – “Their fruit will be for food, and their leaves for healing.” Natural methods such as naturopathy and herbology are far less risky, invasive, and potentially harmful than the conventional model. The Biblical model of health care reform would nurture an environment of freedom in which cutting edge science and technology could be rapidly developed and deployed. A prime example, is the
fascinating research
conducted over the past quarter century related to the vital role of the human-body field (HBF) in control of disease. The energy field radiating from the core of the human body exercises far more control over the bio-chemistry of the body than does the brain and nervous system. The ideal field contour has been mapped and specific remedies created to correct abnormalities in the HBF. This methodology was used for just 30 days to cure the author of a malignant Sarcoma Cancer, which normally carries a 40% mortality rate.
