Church Under State?

Where or how does the 501(c)3 corporate church fit in with God's Sovereignty? Or does it?

It seems to me that a church that voluntarily and unneccesarily accepts the corporate status offered by the STATE, that they are then UNDER the STATE and thus NOT under God! "You cannot serve two masters", "you cannot serve God and mammon (civil law). Yet 99% of Christians and especially pastors will vehemently deny this.

Is this a bogus issue or a real concern?
