Be A Real Patriot -- Don't Enlist

Be Wise O Kings...Serve The Lord With Fear

The Iraq war drones on in spite of the “peace” promises of the campaigning Obama. Perhaps “war” should be in quotes instead of the word, peace. It was never legally declared in the first place.

A recent article in Examiner.com does a pretty good job of demonstrating how the Iraq War and other American wars of aggression violate the U.S. Constitution.

Many American lives have been wasted in undeclared illegal wars since the end of World War II, beginning with Korea through Vietnam and now the Iraq War. Yet Christians continue to volunteer for the U.S. Armed Forces -- especially the Marines -- apparently overwhelmed by torrents of patriotic emotion. This is akin to Luke Skywalker enlisting as a Storm Trooper to serve the Empire under Darth Vader.

George Washington had cautioned America against "foreign entanglements." The young nation heeded his advice for most of the Nineteenth Century.

U.S. Foreign involvement, including Iran, Afghanistan, and the Iraq War, did not begin at the end of the Twentieth Century, but at the end of the Nineteenth. However, in that era wars were at least legally declared.

America’s international escapades began in earnest with the Spanish-American War (1918) when a suspicious explosion sank the USS Maine in Havana Harbor. 266 men lost their lives. Yellow journalism fanned the flame and the War spread to the Philippines in the Pacific.

This was convenient, since America needed a base of operations in the Far East. So we proceeded to liberate the Philippines from their Spanish oppressors, fighting against the Filipinos themselves, who resisted our "liberation."

America’s entanglement in World War I commenced with the sinking of the Luisitania, a cargo ship carrying tons of munitions to the British. The Germans had warned American passengers not to board her for she was targeted in the German War effort.

Since the British had illegally mined the North Sea, Germany was fighting for survival. But in order to be part of the peace negotiations, America had to be part of the War. So the Luisitania sailed in spite of the warnings.

The War ended with Germany’s defeat and subjection to some of the worst “peace” conditions ever imposed on a defeated nation.
The League of Nations was imposed as part of the "peace" process after World War I. This international body was supposed to “make the world safe for democracy” and prevent future war. It actually set the stage for the next big one in case it was needed.

As it turned out the U.S. Senate refused to ratify the League of Nations. In response The Council on Foreign Relations was formed to pull the United States out of her so-called “isolationist” mindset. Another big war was needed to promote the cause of one-world government.

And so we inherited World War II and its spawn, the United Nations. FDR succeeded where Woodrow Wilson had failed. Our entanglement in the Iraq War today is the result of the Bush administration's attempt to implement United Nations Security Council Policy in the Middle East.

The policy of foreign entanglement continues under the Obama Administration. The new government in Iraq wants us out of there and an end to the Iraq War. But rather than withdraw, Obama now wants to send more troops into Afghanistan. Ben Laden's stated goal in bombing the twin towers was to goad America into a multi-front war that would drain her resources. Talk about taking the bait.

Democrat and Republican administrations alike both appear as puppets on the world stage, manipulated by some invisible power. As we have seen, the stage was set for America’s policing the world in the last century.

Wars are coming too fast and furious to be declared anyway. The powers that be are grinding them out like a grist mill whenever and wherever they are needed to increase the power, size and reach of international government. It’s part of God’s judgment on a rebellious and gainsaying people.

It’s time for the LORD’s people to stop participating in this charade and call for reformation and repentance. Instead of giving aid and comfort to the enemy, we should pray that God will raise up lesser magistrates in the land to lead us in legal revolt against the tyrants in high places.

We must put an end to the Iraq War and all other such unjust and unbiblical wars. Christians need to think twice before volunteering to serve in the enforcement arm of international government, AKA the United States Armed Forces.
