Amendment To The Supremacy Clause
by Dennis

Mr. President I rise to propose an Amendment to Article VI, Section 2, inserting the phrase in bold typeface, as follows:
This Constitution, and the laws of the United States which shall be made in pursuance thereof; and all treaties made, or which shall be made, under the authority of the United States, shall be subject to the Holy Bible as the supreme law of the land; and the judges in every state shall be bound thereby, anything in the Constitution or laws of any State to the contrary notwithstanding.
As written, the wording challenges the ultimate authority of God and His Word as the higher law to which all manmade law is subordinate. Under the current construction we are, in effect, exalting ourselves above the Supreme Ruler of the universe. It is extremely presumptuous and dangerous for us to take this position in our official capacity as delegates of this constitutional convention.
The word "supreme" means "highest in authority or rank; greatest or most important." We insult the Most High by insinuating that our feeble attempts to define a just government are superior to the Great lawgiver and Judge.
It was this very thing He complained of the House of Israel under the divided kingdom: "The statutes of Omri and all the works of the house of Ahab are observed; And in their devices you walk. Therefore, I will give you up for destruction...." (Micah 6:16). If God did not spare his own chosen people for substituting the manmade laws of Omri for His own law, how shall we hope to escape.
Moreover, we surrender all the benefit of Divine counsel contained in that law. And we consign our posterity to a squalid existence, ever to grope in confusion for want of the Divine standard of justice.
I therefore move that we insert the phrase subject to the Holy Bible as in the first sentence of Article VI, Section 2, as indicated in bold typeface above.
