Amendment To The Preamble

Mr. President, I propose an amendment to the Preamble that would read as follows:

"WE, THE PEOPLE OF THE UNITED STATES, recognizing the being and attributes of Almighty God, the Divine Authority of the Holy Scriptures, the law of God as the paramount rule, and Jesus, the Messiah, the Saviour and Lord of all, in order to form a more perfect union, establish justice, ensure domestic tranquility, provide for the common defense, and promote the blessings of liberty for ourselves and our posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America."

This added provision would transform our proposed document from a mere contractual agreement among men to a covenant with Almighty God. It would do this by acknowledging His sovereignty over our governmental affairs and establishing His law in the Holy Scriptures as the foundation for our legal system.

Moreover, it would formally enthrone Christ, the King of kings, as the Divine Ruler of our new nation, governing through His oath-bound representatives. It is prudent that we do so because the 2nd Psalm calls upon the kings of the earth to "kiss the Son lest he be angry and you perish in the way."

I fear that the document in its present form is an invitation for the central government to intrude more and more on the freedom of our citizens. The invitation is open because there is no Divine restraint on the usurpations of a tyrant over future generations.

None of the promised blessings -- justice, tranquillity, defense, or liberty -- are possible apart from the Law of God. To quote a contemporary statesman, "Those who will not be governed by God, shall be ruled by tyrants."

What we have currently is a mere social contract, an invention of Mr. Locke, who has himself acknowledged derives its authority from nothing more than the will of the majority.

Thus, we are grounding the authority for our government in the shifting opinion of men, rather than the covenant authority of the Word of God. This Democracy is no safe foundation on which to ground a state.
